Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka is an American British musician and sitarist. She is the youngest woman and the first to be awarded an official British House of Commons shield. Anoushka Sitar Shankar, the Indian young sitar artist. She is a student as well as daughter of the famous Ravi Shankar. She was born 1982 in London. Her early years were split in London and New Delhi. The first time she performed was at New Delhi at the tender age of 13. Later she moved into Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha, who is only an teen, has enjoyed an extremely successful recording and performing career. She is often seen performing with her dad and has performed with him for many years. She released her first single album Anourag in 1998. In 2002, she released her Grammy Nominated Live at Carnegie Hall. She has appeared at many famous venues throughout the world. Anoushka Shakar's work is not only limited to music. She released Bapi the Heart of My Life, in 2002. This is a picture biographical work that is a tribute to her dad Ravi Shankar. In addition, she appeared in. in the 2003 movie Dance Like a Man, where she portrayed an Bharat Natyam dancer young girl. Anoushka Shakar's professional career will only continue to grow and expand. At the age of 9 She began studying music with her father. The first time she performed on the Sitar was at her 75th Birthday celebration in Delhi, four years after. Anoushka has gained lots of experience by touring across the globe together with the father. She played in Carnegie Hall in her teenage time, and also recorded at George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. The youngest female to receive the House of Commons Shield, presented by British Parliament in recognition of her musicianship and artistry in the Asian Arts.
